I strongly believe that you do not have spend a ton of $$ to look fashionable.  For those skeptics who may think I don’t have any money, well you may be right at the moment, but in the not so far recent past I worked for high end retailers including Barney’s New York and Ron Herman/Fred Segal, had a celebrity clientele and a big fat discount along with my big fat paycheck.  Instead of blowing my cash on clothes- I saved my money and took a $20,000 year long trip around world (I did the “Eat.Pray.Live” before it existed).  I flew to places like Fiji, Australia, Bali, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Qatar, South Africa, Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica amongst other locales and experienced things no $200 shirt could give me.  Don’t get me wrong; I still buy designer handbags that I will use everyday and last a lifetime and shoes when I *must* have a pair, but I get quite a kick over saving money on clothes, and passing along fashionable vintage items at affordable prices to my customers.

Here is my $40 outfit:

Top-Thrifted, $4, Belt- H&M, $10, Skirt– H&M, $6, Sunglasses-Urban Outfitters, $12, Boots– Thrifted, $6

Stripes

2 Aug

I don’t think it’s any secret that I love stripes, just as much as I do dots, plaid, and all things nautical.  I’ve brought my love of stripes to the Castaway Vintage shop, via 5 new listings ranging from a little hot pink 90’s crop top, a classic red and white striped t, a red, white, and blue 80’s bodysuit with tags still attached, a cool red and white summer beach jacket, and an amazing military/flight uniform style dress!!  Check out the listings here!

San Francisco

14 Jul

Took a few days off this week to fly north and visit nearby San Francisco.  My boyfriend had 3 days off in a row from work so we decided to take advantage and take a mini-vacation!  We did some major thrift shopping and got some really good finds which should be posted by next week.  San Francisco is such a different city from Los Angeles- most of the people are really cool and laid back, artistic, fun, unpretentious- until you ride the public buses!  We found so many angry, crazy, yelling, pushing, hitting people… I guess public transit brings that out.  It was a nice change of pace though to be able to walk around and have an ample public transit system which is so very lacking here in LA, ie; TRAFFIC and never seeing people on the street like I’m used to in NY!  I was also enamored with the abundance of small boutiques. eateries and bars with a unique artistic vibe, and attention to sustainability and local growers/business.

We took a trip to the Golden Gate Bridge, then off to the piers to have some lunch by the water.  With only 2 1/2 days there, we didn’t have a lot of time to do everything we wanted, but definitely fit in some great thrift shopping in the Mission District, breakfast at Pork Store Valencia, amazing pizza at Delfina Pizzeria, saw an Asian cowboy perform at Amnesia, and finished off with a great massage and spa treatment at Burke Williams (courtesy via gift cards haha).

Now it’s back to LA, and back to work.  I’m shooting some shoes and swimwear today that we picked up and hope to post in the next day or so, and the clothes will be coming soon next week!!  Check out our latest additions before they’re gone at Castaway Vintage

Vintage Finds: Red, White and Blue

>> Monday, July 5, 2010

I hope all of you had a great 4th of July! And if you’re not from the U.S., I hope you had a great weekend anyway. Now it’s time for the obligatory patriotic blog post. But I do really, really like these vintage finds from Etsy. Enjoy!

Patriotic Looks for July 4th

3 Jul

One of my favorite holidays has always been the Fourth of July- it’s always hot out, marking that time of year saying “summer is officially here”!  Barbecues, beach time, friends, parties and fireworks has always been fun times ever since my childhood, and continues to be great fun as an adult.  Since red, white, and blue happen to be one of my favorite color schemes as well, there are plenty of patriotic options available at Castaway Vintage.
