Vintage Leopard Print

28 Mar

I absolutely adore leopard print.  Such a classic print that’s widely versatile- from 1960’s Mod swing coats, to 1980’s trashy Peg Bundy looks it always stands out and gives a sultry edge to any wardrobe.  I wish I could find more vintage leopard print, as of right now we only have 2 leopard pieces in stock at Castaway Vintage, though they are both amazing pieces!   Here are our lovely leopard pieces, and some favorite pop culture leopard inspiration!   The dress is spoken for an Aussie customer, but the amazing rare 1960’s-70’s Robby Len sexy cutout swimsuit is still up for grabs!!

LA Vintage Style Examiner-Pinup Girl Clothing

29 Jul

PS- I almost forgot to mention that I am Examiner.com’s new LA Vintage Style Examiner!  I will be writing and reporting on all things vintage in the Los Angeles area!

Check out my review below of  Pinup Girl Clothing’s website, and see the live article here!

Pinup Girl Clothing
Pinup Girl Clothing

Pinup Girl Clothing is an LA based company that is a modern day pinup girl’s dream when it comes to clothing and accessories.  Ranging from retro style swimwear, hip hugging pencil skirts, wiggle dresses, tops, shoes, housewares, cosmetics, jewelry and accessories, any item a retro style girl would want can be found here in a range of sizes to fit everyone. Though items are not truly vintage, the vintage recreations have every detail for rockabilly retro style designed flawlessly at affordable prices.

The swimwear line will have you heating up the poolside in sexy classic numbers like the one-piece ‘Marilyn’ inspired by none other than Marilyn Monroe, a gathered, skirted, fitted suit that looks straight out of the 1950’s.  Marilyn Swimsuit Laura Byrnes PhotographyAvailable in the classic colors black, red, or leopard, an extremely limited edition in either gold, green, or white is currently available until sold out.  There is also the halter neck ‘Bombshell’ style one-piece, a striped nautical style ‘Sailor Playsuit’, and the classic sheath suit.  Amazing two-piece suits include the ‘Sailor Girl’; high waisted navy blue shorts with white anchor button detailing and a matching red and white striped halter neck top with blue trim and blue sailor tie in the center.   Other two piece suits can be found in gingham plaid, leopard print, and polka dots in both retro high waisted bottoms, and skimpy modern cuts.

Their dress selection is to die for.  Inspired from 1940-1950’s styles, there are dresses ranging from casual sundresses to evening formal dresses.  The cuts are amazing with fitted waists and classic shapes that enhance the body and are drop dead gorgeous.  Selections include the ‘Military Secretary’ dress, inspired by the classic pinup girls painted on the sides of WWII planes; a stretchy high waisted pencil skirt style with gold buttons and a sexy V cut blouse top meant to look like separates.

The ‘Natalie’ dress is a classic leopard print body hugging wiggle dress in stretchy material, cleavage enhancing bustline, cap sleeves and center ties.  The more casual ‘Retro Sun Dress’ features cherry print on either black or white fabric, deep V neckline, fitted waist and full skirt.  In addition to their own designs, Pinup Girl Clothing also carries a wide variety of dresses from other retro designers as well.

No modern day pinup girl is complete without shoes, and styles offered include classic pumps, platform leopard prints, polka dot mary janes, and cherry print wedges, just to name a few.  A full range of retro style accessories include purses, hair flowers, jewelry, cosmetics, sunglasses, fragrance, belts, lingerie, in addition to Halloween costumes, menswear, outerwear, and housewares.

Pinup Girl Clothing is the one stop shop for all things retro, rockabilly, and pinup girl style with a great eye for design, style, and affordability.  Most styles are around or under $100, and are available in sizes XS-XL.  Visit the website at www.pinupgirlclothing.com, and follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

Listing of the Day: Vintage Backless Ralph Lauren Dress

9 Jul

My Listing of the day is this gorgeous vintage Ralph Lauren ‘blue label’ (highest tier under black label) black backless dress, contains ILGWU tag (International Ladies Garment Union).  Super silky, drapes and hangs beautifully on many body types!  If I was comfortable going bra-less, this would totally be staying in my closet for a lifetime.  Even my boyfriend stated while photographing this that “you should just wear this from now on” who never comments on any of my outfits!  (Unless they’re way too tight, short, or sexy for my taste- haha)

A true timeless classic!

See this and more at Castaway Vintage

Have a great weekend everyone!!  xxoo

Troncones, Mexico Arrival

4 Jun

So at the end of May I turned the big 3-0, and it seems as though every year on my birthday I get really stressed out about where to celebrate, will anyone come, and it usually turns out far more amazing than I could have expected, but this year I just did not want the stress or to chance things “not going my way”, and quite frankly wasn’t too thrilled about ending my 20’s and didn’t really want much of a celebration, so I decided to leave the country with my boyfriend.

Since we already traveled most of the world together, it was hard to find a place to get me excited about- besides maybe Italy, Greece, Egypt or Spain- all of which we definitely don’t have the budget for this year.  We were going to do Hawaii, but it just seemed so ‘touristy’ and Americanized, and expensive.  My boyfriend Ray is an avid surfer, and I love the beach, and I came across this little village of Troncones in Mainland Mexico on the Pacific coast, about 2 hours south of Acapulco, while reading a magazine in the waiting room of the vet’s office; which showed it as this pretty laid back surf spot.  Tickets and rooms were dirt cheap- I was sold!  And little village it was- dirt roads with pigs, donkeys, stray dogs, and roosters crowing at all hours.  Barely any people, pure sun, surf, and relaxation!  These are from the arrival of our trip, I’ll be updating my birthday in my next post!
