Stripes

2 Aug

I don’t think it’s any secret that I love stripes, just as much as I do dots, plaid, and all things nautical.  I’ve brought my love of stripes to the Castaway Vintage shop, via 5 new listings ranging from a little hot pink 90’s crop top, a classic red and white striped t, a red, white, and blue 80’s bodysuit with tags still attached, a cool red and white summer beach jacket, and an amazing military/flight uniform style dress!!  Check out the listings here!

The lucky Dooney & Bourke Bag

15 Jun

How this little number

Got me all this for free! :

So maybe it’s not a lot, and nothing expensive, but dealing vintage clothing I don’t make a ton of money and spend so much time in thrift shops and vintage sales that I rarely buy anything ‘new’ for myself!

Last month when my boyfriend and I were leaving town for vacation, we needed to make a set of spare keys for someone to take care of the pets while we were away.  The spot across the street from his job was closed the day we needed keys, so we stopped by this seedy little shop filled with junky cheap dollar store items for sale, but randomly had some purses in the corner, one of which was that lovely Dooney & Burke bag.  It was only $15, and Ray thought it would be a great item for the Etsy shop- I told him “No Way! I love this bag- I’m keeping it”.  It sat in my closet for a few weeks while were away, and once I started using it I usually just dumped my wallet and keys in the main compartment until one day I wanted to fit in some lipstick and tried to fit my keys into the tiny zippered compartment.  Low and behold, I see and a $10 and $5 crumpled together as I ran to the car to pick up Ray from work.  I was super excited about finding some money and just figured we got the bag for free, until we got to our destination and pulled it out to see a $100 and a $50 bill!!!  I kept the $100, and gave Ray the $50 since he bought the bag for me.  It’s been so long since I’ve had extra ‘play’ money- we had an amazing dinner out at Katsuya, and went for drinks at this really cool bar in Hollywood called Piano Bar, with the rest I went on a mini shopping spree for myself at H&M and Forever 21!

Pics top to bottom:

H&M Floral zip front mini skirt $18,  H&M Black Wedges $20,  H&M Black Criss Cross Sandals $13,  Forever 21 Blue Sunnies $6,  Forever 21 Oversize Brown Sunnies $6, Forever 21 Brown Skinny Braided Belt $6, Dinner at Katsuya, Drinks at Piano Bar

New Etsy Sneak Peek

27 Apr

Happy Tuesday!  Did another photoshoot this weekend of some more great summer items coming to the shop this week, as soon as I can sort through all the photos and get them listed!  I’m a day behind now as I drank a little bit too much at a friend’s toga birthday party Sunday night and left the camera- with all the Etsy photos behind and didn’t get it back until last night!  I’m working all day today to try to get them up.  I’m obsessed with shorts right now and have some great fitting vintage denim basics from Guess and Levi’s.  We have an amazing vintage Christian Dior blazer, an awesome striped nautical romper, sheer cut out American Apparel style swimsuit- just better since it’s the vintage original and one of a kind!  Along with great shoes and boots, original vintage riding pants, and lots more great items!  Here is a sneak peek of what’s to come this week:

Vintage Nautical Striped Romper
